Glenn C. Jones Middle School
Code of Honor
2008-09

Purpose

The mission of Glenn C. Jones Middle School is to educate and inspire each child to become a productive adult who contributes to society.  Our vision is to be a recognized leader in serving and educating middle school students, partnering with our community to provide students with an unparalleled educational experience.  In order to fulfill our school mission and vision, each member of our school family – teacher, staff member, parent, and student - must recognize our obligations to each other, and act honorably toward each other at all times.  Living by the “Code of Honor” will allow each member of our school family to achieve a satisfying school experience and greater academic achievement for our students.
The Code of Honor requires that two fundamental conditions be satisfied:  1) assigned student work must be completed, and 2) every teacher, staff member, parent, and student must act honorably with one another.  These expectations are set forth below.

Obligations

Students
1.  Complete all assigned work, including homework, and turn it in on the day it is due.
2.  Demonstrate courtesy, respect, and honor for self, teachers, staff members, parents, all other students, and all property.
3.  Speak honestly with parents and teachers about difficulties and seek assistance when it is needed.
4.  Seek a non-aggressive, honorable response to every conflict that you face.

Teachers and Staff
1.  Provide engaging, meaningful, relevant, rigorous work for students.
2.  Provide assistance beyond class time and additional resources for students who need additional help.
3.  Demonstrate courtesy, respect, and honor for self, students, colleagues and staff, and parents.
4.  Positively engage parents by making timely reports of students’ progress by updating homework sites daily, sending progress reports weekly, and communicating by phone, email, or in person as needed to help students maintain success.

Parents
1.  Provide time, space, materials, and encouragement to insure that students complete their homework.
2.  Provide support for students who need more instructional time/attention before or after school.
3.  Demonstrate courtesy, respect, and honor for self, all students, teachers, staff members, and other parents.
4.  Keep teachers informed of any developmental or learning needs that will help them help your child learn, attend parent meetings, and volunteer some time to help the school.

We believe the single most important factor determining the future success of our students is their education.  Because it is so important, every teacher, staff member, student, and parent must commit to supporting the success of every other member of the Jones’ school family.  Please sign below indicating your commitment to fulfilling our school’s Code of Honor.
